One of the highlights at Genbu is the unique approach to enhancing your dining experience. This added step not only enriches the taste but also provides a delightful interaction with the food.
While the food quality shines, it’s important to note that the service has room for improvement. Some patrons have mentioned delays in serving time; however, the team at Genbu is dedicated to refining their processes. Once the food arrives, the wait seems worthwhile, as the flavors transport you to Japan with every bite.
The drink selection is also commendable, featuring an array of authentic Japanese beers that perfectly pair with your meal, ensuring a well-rounded gastronomic journey. Expect to spend around 300-500K IDR per person, a worthy investment for the premium experience and generous portions offered.

“ The name do it justice. Katsu dish with premium quality indeed. Taste and texture is on point. Also happy with their selection of various japan original beers. You might spend around 300-500K IDR / person btw, depending on your choice of menu. ”
“ Excellent taste , succulent meat. But be careful if you're on diet the portion is quite big. Good thing the price is worth it for what you get ”
“ The new spot in PIK. Great interior on the first floor. We got to sit in the 2nd unfortunately though. Food is awesome. The fried stuff is crispy and juicy. Both pork and beef alike. The picture says it all. Portion is large and filling for sure. Server is attentive and very polite. They are to the scene but certainly on par or even better to the competition premium Katsu scene in Jakarta. Definitely recommend. ”
“ It was a proper premium katsu resto and comparable to Katsut***. And the great news that they also had lunch menu with more affordable price (around 119 K per pack). We tried katsu nabe and tonkatsu lunch menu. I loved all their sauces especially the tonkatsu one. As for tonkatsu, meat was still juicy, but need a bit effort to cut it without knife. I loved their katsu nabe, because their katsuni soup was really tasty and soothing. We really enjoyed the meals and it was such a perfect weekdays lunch. Definitely will come back again to taste another menu here. ”
“ The food was as delicious as expected. We ordered Galician Sirloin Tonkatsu and Cheese Pork Katsu Set with the side Camembert Cheese Katsu. The quality of the ingredients are applaudable. The room is limited but the atmosphere is cozy. However, they have to pay more attention to the serving duration. It took more than half an hour for our food to be served. But luckily, the food turned out fine. The other guest even didn't get their order served for more than 45 mins. As the meal came, the quality was deviated and it's obvious that it was cooked rushingly. It seems like there was some shortage of staff in the kitchen. Nevertheless, this place is worth to try. Guests are suggested to do rsvp to avoid wait-list in peak hours. ”
“ Crispy, tender katsu. It would be between this and Katsutoku for the best katsu place in Jakarta. I had the hokkaido katsu set. All sets come with pickles, rice, and miso soup. On the table, a mortar and pestle is provided as well to grind your own toasted sesame seeds to be mixed in with the katsu sauce, providing both taste and texture. The katsu itself was amazing. Where most katsu places focus on providing a crunch, genbu masterfully focuses on the chew of the meat, which translates to a hearty meal while still having the aromatic crisp of the batter. A touch of mustard is provided at the side of the plate, which just cuts through the fluffy marbling on the katsu to provide a whole, balanced, dining experience. For katsu lovers out there, genbu is definitely a must try not only for the hokkaido katsu but also for the large range of katsus they serve at multiple price points ”
“ Had the best premium tonkatsu here in Genbu Located within area of PIK 2, exterior kinda easily missed since very simple and small entrance. Interior are comfortable, simple, there is this bar within the dining area. I think they had second floor. Came during lunch time, almost all tables are occupied on the first floor. We sat at the table across the bar, and kinda cramp, table is small. When we came, they give us complimentary drink, IDK whats that, like green tea had a sweet smell. Service excellent, they are quick and knowledgeable about the menus. Not that attentive though as it is crowded. I had the galician sirloin tonkatsu set (IDR 179k), portion came big. Serve with delicious white rice, not too sticky but soft, whole bunch of gratef cabbage, potato salad, and delicious miso soup. Tonkatsu is crispy , inside moist juicy delicious, the batter kinda easily crumbling and fell apart, but who cares about crumbling batter when the taste is delicious. The sauce are the same as the you know who, typical tonkatsu sauce. Had the tonkatsu curry rice (IDR 149k), curry delicious, savory not too heavy, but just okay for me nothing special. The tonkatsu on the other hand has a kinda different taste compare with the galician. The Pork Yaki Gyoza 4pcs (IDR 49k) taste just okay, nothing special and small size. The shrimp ebi furai (IDR 189k), comes in 4 big prawns fried with crispy batter, serve with tartar sauce, the tartar sauce is delicious shrimp is also cook nicely, sweet juicy, but again, the crumbling batter texture is kinda annoying cause they fall apart all over the place. Ocha (IDR 20k) free refill Overall, I like Genbu, and might be my go to for tonkatsu, since cheaper has the same taste as you know who (katsut*k*).The only downside is the crumbling easily fell apart flour batter. But overall delicious. ”
“ Bringing Katsu to the NEXT LEVEL !! Best katsu I’ve ever eaten in my life, I would say. It’s worth the price! Best thing is the amount of meat you get here is so fulfilling. It’s thick yet it’s chewy and juicy. I tried different types of Pork meat and each of them taste great. Not to mention the place is very comfortable, they got VIP rooms on the 2nd floor. Service is also great. ”
